Good post Michael. I read it quickly at work when you first wrote it and was just redirected back here now (on a Saturday when I have time to respond).

Your points are good and I agree moving away from the didactic extremes of kumbaya and gecko. The five areas you point out are also a good checklist for somebody who doesn't have time to become an expert and wants to get things moving in their organisation.

From a theoretical standpoint I would like to see things go a step further and acknowledge that human intelligence (and needs/motivations) are embedded not just as a function of cognitive processes, but physiological ones as well. As such their complexity makes any list either radically incomplete or at best suitable for one individual only.

Rather than trying to reduce and understand what motivates the individual users in an organisation, maybe Snowden's Safe-Fail strategy is a better method, building implementation methodologies that measure the participation and success of several solutions to understand what will work best for a certain group.
